British Riding Clubs Novice Indoor Show Jumping and Winter Dressage Championships returned to Hartpury College in Gloucestershire over the weekend of 28-29 March.
The Championships, sponsored by NAF, saw more than 360 horses competing over the two days. Tracey Lloyd, Marketing Manager of NAF, was on hand to present the winners with their prizes of embroidered rugs.
The Seniors got the weekend off to a flying start and the Show Jumping proved to be a challenging course for everyone but the ladies of Ardingly RC who finished the day on a commendable score of zero. The team of Allison Ingram on Red Square, Sarah Jones (Nina), Nicki Gurden (Jack) and Jane Taggart (Llanwen Deio), claimed to be ‘just ordinary women on cobs’ and were thrilled to go home with Championship title.
Just as thrilled in the Dressage arena were Kings Leaze RC who took the title of Team Dressage Champions. Their team comprised Linda Davidson on Silver Dollar, Elizabeth Harding (Stanhopes Orion), Elinor Lee (Wickhams Fancy) and Christina Ticehurst (Sir Darcy). They claimed their success was due to new trainer Sam Rahmatalla and team manager Nicky Coombes.
Caroline Steward from Finn Valley RC, riding Master Ferdinand, took the Overall Individual title as well as winning Arena two. Kylie Roddy on Wapiti (Breakspear RC) won Arena one.
Despite having a broken down horsebox at the ferry terminal, which resulted in an eight-hour delay, the Isle of Wight team took the Show Jumping Championship crown on the Sunday. Sarah Holmes on Bailey, Jessica Vanassche (Neyffed Dubonnet), Laura Goody (Lochlands Poppys Pride) and Hannah Sims (Longstone Royal Mystery) made up the winning team.
An excellent standard of dressage was shown by Atherstone RC, who took the Team Dressage Championship title. Atherstone’s team, regular BRC Championship competitors, comprised Sophie Croxton riding Mr Mcgowan, Beatrice Payne (VIP), Emma Hulme (Darcy Nick) and Amy Croxton (Blue Boy).
Beatrice Payne and VIP also won their Arena and Overall Individual, making it a run of five championship dressage wins for the pair in the past year. In the other Arena, Zoe Lowes riding Just George took the trophy for Aspley Guise and District RC.
Riding Clubs staff received many pleasing comments from competitors who were already looking forward to their next BRC competition. The new range of BRC merchandise also proved a resounding success – and it seemed pink hoodies were the order of the day!
