Hartpury hosts BRC Championships
Friday, April 23, 2010
British Riding Clubs Novice Indoor Show Jumping and Winter Dressage Championships have taken place at Hartpury College, Gloucestershire. Both Championship competitions were sponsored by NAF and attracted around 360 horses and ponies.
Novice Indoor Show Jumping
The seniors went on the first day with 27 teams competing. Taunton RC and Cambridge RC took part in a jump off, which was won by Cambridge. It was a double celebration for the city when they heard that Cambridge had won the Boat Race that afternoon!
The Cambridge team included mother and daughter Judi Shaw on Disney Magic and Niki Shaw (Earl Grey), grandma Jane Moon (Rocky) and David Smith (Private Eye) – making three OAP’s, and a combined team age of 209!
On the following day, 28 junior teams zipped round the twisty course, and by the end of round two there were three teams with eight faults, so we were again treated to a jump off. Northallerton A secured the win with four immaculate clears to lift the title. The team comprised Heather Bellis (Pebbles), Lucy Winn (Creagh Mazeppa), Christie Farren (Baly Cahane Lad) and Aimee Gascoigne (Bronte).
NAF Winter Dressage
21 senior teams took part in the NAF Winter Dressage Championships where South Devon RC, on a team score of six, were thrilled to win the Senior Team title. Their riders were Becky Wright (Koos), Michelle Head (Whitestream Crest), Louise Christie (Kellybrook Jubilate) and Lucy Baker (Llancloudy Phantom). Sandra Batson, riding Kingston, from Towy Valley RC won the overall individual dressage title.
The following day saw 18 junior teams compete for their title. This was won by Evenlode RC on an overall score of 17. The team comprised Harriet Gloag (Arctic Flynn), Matthew Izod (Archer), Camille Smith (Master Ploy) and Victoria Smith (Chit Chat). The overall individual junior dressage title went to Sophie Croxton (Mr McGowan), from Atherstone RC, with the highest mark of the weekend - 81.05 percent.
Tracey Lloyd, NAF Marketing Manager, was on hand to present all the lucky winners with their fantastic prizes and BRC staff and NEC committee received many compliments from competitors, who thoroughly enjoyed the weekend.
