Hartpury Unaffiliated Championships prove a real hit!

Hartpury College was delighted to welcomed a total of 125 competitors to the inaugural South West Unaffiliated Dressage Championships held on 1st March and the Unaffiliated Show Jumping Championships held last weekend; giving them the full ‘star’ treatment as they competed for fantastic prizes kindly donated by a variety of sponsors in the new championship Hartpury Arena.
Following a series of qualifiers held across the South West region, competitors made the journey from as far away as Cornwall to participate in these exciting new events organised by the Hartpury team. College students were integral to the smooth running of both championships; in-particular Equine Science Brazilian student and Academy rider, Charlie Bays, who proved quite a hit as event commentator.
Commenting on both weekends of unaffiliated competition, Hartpury Equine Events Director, Tina Truman, said:
“Once the new arena was opened, Hartpury was committed to organise championships for unaffiliated riders. They share just as much enthusiasm and dedication to the sport as their affiliated counterparts, but rarely have the opportunity to come together and compete at this level.
“With the kind backing of equestrian suppliers and support from ‘qualifiying’ venues across the region including Tall Trees, Colraine Equestrian, Cornish Show Jumping Club, Gracelands and Bromyard, both championship events have proved to be a real hit and will definitely appear in the Hartpury Equine Events calendar next year.”
