Competition was fierce in all of the 22 championship classes, but none more so than in the Combined Competition. The introduction of a £1000 training bursary, kindly donated by Natural Animals Feeds, as this year’s prize meant these classes were a nail biting affair. Victory in the senior championship went to Emma Howell and Velidin from Welton and District RC. Emma will use the bursary to further the pair’s eventing training. The junior title was won by Tiffany Lees and Luigi. Tiffany, who rides for Moreton Morrell RC, was thrilled with her fantastic prize.

A full complement of showing classes took place across the weekend, with eight NAF Magic ridden showing classes culminating in an exciting ridden championship. All four ridden judges presided over the field, before the title was awarded to Karen Newman riding Odin of Valhalla from Maidstone RC. Karen had won both the Novice Ridden Hunter and the Open Ridden Hunter on her way to the championship. The reserve title went to the Riding Horse winner, Sarah Lindsey and Tout A L’Heure from Hinkley RC.

The Working Hunter Championship was also hotly contested, with overall honours going to the NAF Magic Working Mountain and Moorland champion, Stacie Harrison riding Hillam My Dudley from West Devon RC. Lois Teal from North Ryedale RC took reserve with Working Hunter Pony winner Castle Quarter Totti.

Three partnerships came forward for the overall Supreme Championship which after much careful deliberation by the five judges was awarded to Karen Newman and Odin of Valhalla, with Sarah Lindsey and Tout A L’Heure in reserve.

The highlight of the weekend was the Festival Challenge classes, which see riders tackle a round show jumps, followed immediately by a testing cross-country course. This year the NAF Senior Open Team Challenge went to Mid Somerset RC represented by Alys Matravers (Ableaccesski); Amanda Brown (Neen Victoria); Vicky Heal (Pride of Shannon) and Michelle Treloggen (Thyme to Decide).
