Ross-Davies is Through to the Freestyle

Saturday, September 01, 2007

In only her first season at international grand prix level, Anna Ross-Davies is the sole Brit to qualify for tomorrow’s grand prix freestyle at the 2007 European Championships in Turin, Italy, 30 August-2 September.

The team debutante finished 16th with 68.04% in the grand prix special (GPS) riding Donald McTaggart’s 10-year-old gelding by Lorentin I.

British Dressage selector Judy Harvey said: “They started out as reserves and to do so well is just fantastic. They had no pressure in the special as they had nothing left to prove [having scored a solid 67.41% in the grand prix] and did a completely mistake-free test.”

Anna will be riding a freestyle using music she put together on her own computer and has only ridden once before in competition.

Judy said: “She will go into that arena tomorrow all guns blazing, that’s for sure.”

The other three team members made small but expensive mistakes. Fiona Bigwood and Mr G De Lully just missed going through to the freestyle in 18th on 67.36%, Laura Bechtolsheimer and Mistral Hojris took 20th on 67.2% and Emma Hindle finished in 21st place with Lancet on 67.08%.

British-based Finnish rider Kyra Kyrklund did not make it through to the freestyle either, having dropped from 11th place in the grand prix to 19th in the GPS with Max.
