Find out how the world’s top professionals create freestyle tests at Britain’s first FEI Freestyle Forum, to be held at Unex Towerlands in Essex on 22-23 January 2007.

The world-renowned Dutch composer Cees Slings, who has co-produced the kürs for the queen of freestyle Anky van Grunsven, will reveal his secrets of success when he explains how he produces a grand prix freestyle.

Another leading composer Joost Peters, who is currently working on the World Cup test of top Dutch rider Imke Schellekens-Bartels, will show how he creates a young rider kür while former World Cup Champion Kyra Kyrklund will perform her 2006 World Equestrian Games freestyle ”Cabaret” for the first time in this country. The composer of Kyra’s kür normally produces sound tracks for films. He will explain how to use music to create mood and tension and his controversial view that the music should not be footfall perfect.

Chairman of the FEI Dressage Committee Mariette Withages will give an insight into judging freestyles and the world’s top riders and judges are expected to attend to discuss the current FEI freestyle policy and new ideas.

Having attended the first FEI Freestyle Forum in Germany two years ago, British team member Wayne Channon suggested British Dressage host this forum.

“The aim is that members of the audience leave knowing how to produce a freestyle themselves. Many riders do not have thousands of pounds to spend on having a test composed, so the idea is to show where to find the tools of the trade and how to use them. For example, there is a free internet download which allows you to change the tempo of music to match your horse’s footfall and there are techniques you can learn to create seamless joins of music,” said Wayne.

Tickets are limited and will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. They cost £50 per day and are available from Lianne Harris, British Dressage, Stoneleigh Park, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, CV8 2RJ. Please make cheques payable to "British Dressage" and include a SAE.
