Top marks for Lancet

Britain’s number one ranked combination, Emma Hindle and Lancet, earned their best scores to date at the Stuttgart CDI in Germany, 16-19 November 2006.

Emma, who is based in Germany at the Brookhouse Stud, and her 13-year-old 17hh Hanoverian stallion produced their best grand prix score, 71.542%, to take the runner-up slot. They then went on to gain their best grand prix freestyle score, 74.15%, and take fifth place.

Both classes were won by British-based Finnish rider Kyra Kyrklund and Max, who broke the 80% barrier in the grand prix freestyle.

Emma performed her new kür for the first time. This is the first one specifically designed for Lancet and is set to a medley of Madonna music.

She said: “The grand prix was super. I rode well and Lancet went well. In the freestyle, he was on form, but I lost concentration and let him down a little. I would give us 10 for our artistic mark and entertainment value and four for the technical score; the audience seemed to have a lot of fun watching it, especially when Lancet did his flying changes to Madonna singing Push Me. We will go back to the drawing board for my next freestyle in Stockholm [1-3 December], but at least I know we are on the right track.”

Another British rider based in Germany, Fiona Bigwood, who only returned to competition last month after a break of nearly a year whilst having a baby, also scored well. Fiona finished fourth in the grand prix on 70.875% riding the 13-year-old 16.1hh Swedish-bred gelding Mr G de Lully.
