Dressage and Event Riders' Charity Ride
Tuesday, March 21, 2006
This weekend, Dressage and Endurance rider, Judy Sharrock will launch her John O'Groats to Land's End Challenge, riding the length of Britain on horseback for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity (GOSHCC) and the Fortune Centre for Riding Therapy (FCRT).
On May Bank Holiday Monday, Judy will leave John O' Groats to start this amazing fundraising challenge, aiming to raise around £40,000 to be divided equally between GOSHCC and the FCRT before she arrives in Lands End.
Judy said: "Planning the logistics for this challenge is a real mission. The route will probably be over 1,000 miles and I'm hoping that using two horses I can cover between 20 and 25 miles a day, which will mean the journey will take about eight weeks in total.
"My horses are Westie, a chestnut and ex-racehorse, and Monty who is being lent to me by a friend. They will be used in two-week rotations so that each has a chance to rest. "The idea has finally becoming a reality and I can't wait to get in the saddle and start!"
