TREC Championships to host Quadrille display

A team of eight Exmoor ponies is being prepared to stage a unique quadrille display during the 2006 TREC European Championships, due to be held on Exmoor in September.

The ponies, five of whom were bred on the moor, have been assembled by Exmoor breed enthusiast Yvonne Campbell, from Wells, and are being trained by Avon and Somerset Constabulary mounted officer John Green. Choreography has been arranged by Ann Whittle and Catherine Gefferd.

Work on the quadrille started in November and the team will give its first display at the Royal Bath and West show in May. The display at the TREC European Championships, however, is especially important because it will be seen by riders and supporters from the expected ten competing nations.

"Exmoor ponies have been sold into Europe and are now being bred there, but the more exposure the breed gets the better it will be appreciated," said Yvonne.

Team members are Charlotte Razay, riding Dramway Miss Pippin; Hannah Ladd on Knightoncombe Goldfinch; Francesca Gould with Knightoncombe Rosy Rustic; Tara Priestley and Haddon Magnus; Ann Whittle riding Waltersgay Bryony; Catherine Gefferd on Hawkwell Hercules; Jo Gingell and Bright Red Poppy and Mrs Campbell with Waltersgay Grasshopper.
