Hunts Parade At Trec Championships

Friday, July 14, 2006

Four Exmoor Hunts will parade before spectators and competitors at the TREC European Championships, to be held at Luccombe in September.

The Devon and Somerset Staghounds, Dulverton West, Exmoor Foxhounds and Minehead Harriers will be part of the Arena programme on the second day of the Championships, Saturday, September 16.

It will be the first time the championships have been held in the UK, with Exmoor chosen because of its equestrian traditions and eyecatching countryside. So far, British senior and Young Rider teams will face competition from France, Portugal, Austria, Germany, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Eire and Holland. Individuals from America and Canada will also compete.

In his welcome, Exmoor National Park Authority chief executive Dr Nigel Stone has said: "Once having discovered Exmoor, many people fall in love with the area and return many times. I sincerely hope that everyone who is visiting Exmoor for the first occasion as participant or spectator in the TREC Championships enjoys their time with us and will also return to find out more about the area and its people.

The opening ceremony for the three days of competition will be held at Dunster Castle, while competitors - expected to eventually number about 150 - and their horses will be hosted locally.
