New sponsor for Burghley's Young Event Horse series
Monday, January 28, 2008
Loddon, the world’s leading stabling manufacturer, has joined The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials to support its renowned young event horse classes for a three year term, commencing in 2008. To be known as the Burghley Loddon Young Event Horse Series, the classes are for four and five year old potential event horses and are held in high regard as an excellent show case for identifying our promising stars of the future. This year some 20 qualifiers from Scotland to Cornwall will take place from May through to August culminating in the Burghley Loddon Young Event Horse Championships, to be held at The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials on Friday 5th September 2008.
This is the first foray into sponsorship for Loddon who has a justified reputation for safety, excellence and innovation after 40 years in the stabling market. Loddon’s Managing Director, Roger Widdowson commented; “It is our opinion that Burghley is the top Three Day Event in the world and this sponsorship will be a valuable association for Loddon and our quality products. We feel that the Burghley Loddon Young Event Horse Series allows us to put something back into the sport and invest in its future”.
The competition format for four and five year old horses looks at the horses under saddle in both dressage and jumping while the outlook, movement and conformation are examined in-hand. After the three preliminary sections, the top ten are finally asked to show their paces and demonstrate “star quality and presence”.
The formula is a winning one and previous finalists have included Pippa Funnell’s Primmore’s Pride, William Fox-Pitt’s Tamarillo, Leslie Law’s Shear H2O and Tina Cook’s Miners Frolic, who won the Burghley Young Event Horse 5 year old Championship in 2003 and has recently achieved the necessary qualifications to compete at Burghley CCI **** this year. With London 2012 in just four years, we could get a sneak preview of our potential medallists.
Elizabeth Inman, Event Director of The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials commented; “Burghley is delighted to welcome Loddon, the fit between Loddon and this popular series to find the stars of the future couldn’t be better as excellence and quality are synonymous with both Burghley and Loddon. I know that this partnership will be extremely beneficial forboth of us.”
