Monday, August 02, 2010
In a tense and nail-biting finish to the 2010 Young Rider European Championships at Pardubice in the Czech Republic, the British Young Rider Team have won Team Gold, while Emily Parker won the Individual Gold Medal.
It was a closely fought battle between the British and the Germans all week. Germany had the upper edge after Dressage however the British Team took the lead after Saturday’s Cross Country phase, having produced six clear rounds, and were lying just 0.4 ahead of the Germans going into Sunday’s Showjumping. Both nations had fences down, however Great Britain triumphed and won by just 0.1 of a penalty. This fantastic result gives their Young Riders their 6th consecutive Team Gold Medal having been unbeaten since 2005.
Emily Parker who was leading the individual competition after dressage and Cross Country coped under pressure and jumped an immaculate clear round to win Individual Gold and become the 2010 Young Rider European Champion. Similar to the team result, the scores were all very tight, and with no fences in hand Emily won by just 0.8 of a penalty.
