BHS TREC book gets Warwickshire College seal of approval
Alison Lincoln, Course Manager Foundation Degree Equine Studies at Warwickshire College, has reviewed the book 'BHS TREC' - praising it as "an excellent book for anyone getting started in TREC".
The book was published earlier this year and has been written by Robert Jones, Senior Executive of the Competitions Department at The British Horse Society and a leading light in the world of TREC.
Mrs Lincoln said: "As someone with no experience of this sport, I was fascinated to find out more. It gives clear advice about the skills required to complete the competitions and also how these skills build on what the majority of riders do at home.
"The terminology is well explained as well as the format and equipment required for each phase. I finished the book feeling inspired to have a go, in awe of the partnership that competitors have built up with their horses to complete the tasks, and excited about this newest of horse sports as it truly is accessible to everyone whatever their horse, facilities and budget."
Rob Jones was delighted with the praise the book has received. "I am very flattered by these kind remarks," he said. "A positive review such as this can help to get BHS TREC the public attention it so richly deserves."
The book can be purchased from the BHS bookshop. Contact 08701 201918 or visit www.britishhorse.com .
Rob became involved with the sport during the 1996 European Championships in Spain and has overseen the development of TREC as a new sporting discipline in Britain since 1998.
Rob was chef d'equipe of the British Team until 2003 and competed as part of the GB team in the World TREC Championships in Switzerland in 1999.
Being just one of two Britons accredited to train judges and set orienteering routes for international competitions by the Federation Internationale de Tourisme Equestre (FITE), Rob also gives lectures and demonstrations on BHS TREC, trains competitors and is currently Vice-President of FITE.
Rob will be presenting a lecture/demonstration on BHS TREC in the South-West at the West Point (Exeter) Showground on 3-4 December 2005.
