“BEST MATE – THE ICON”

The official tribute DVD to the racehorse the nation loved

On the afternoon of Nov 1st 2005 the racing world reeled in shock as the news of Best Mate’s passing at Exeter sunk in; he had run his last race and his departure left a big hole in so many people’s lives; the general public had also come to love him for what he was – a beautiful horse.

“Best Mate – the icon” is a tribute to the courage of the first chaser to win 3 Cheltenham Gold Cups since Arkle, the dedication of his trainer Henrietta Knight who nurtured his brilliant talent with such skill, the coolness of his jockey Jim Culloty who was born to ride him and the unbridled affection of owner Jim Lewis who simply loved his “Matey”.

This official double DVD tells the story of the horse and the humans involved with him on disc1, and has all his races in full, excluding his last, on disc 2.

“Race Vision are delighted to be asked by Jim Lewis to produce this tribute”, said managing director Jamie Hawksfield. “It is an honour and privilege to be given the responsibility of telling such a wonderful story. Horses such as Best Mate come along once in a lifetime and he deserves to have his biography told in moving pictures for posterity”.

Jamie was also responsible for the video tributes to One Man and Istabraq and Race Vision have just finished updating the Cheltenham Hall of Fame trilogy, which is now out on DVD. The programme will be narrated by Channel 4 racing presenter and Racing Post leading journalist, Alastair Down.

Best Mate’s Owner, Jim Lewis, said “I’m delighted that Jamie has agreed to put this wonderful memorabilia together because Best Mate loved the people and the people loved Best Mate”. Jim has nominated two registered charities and 10% of all proceeds will be donated to St George’s Hospice Worcester and the “Gentlemans Night Out” charity.

The double DVD, retailing at £19.99, will be available in early December and will be officially launched at the Cheltenham meeting on 9th and 10th. For more information, contact Race Vision on 01730 892220 or visit www.equestrianvision.co.uk for a full list of titles available.
