First lady of racing launches new BHS welfare campaign at Royal International

Jenny Pitman OBE will officially launch The British Horse Society’s new welfare campaign, ‘In sickness and in health,’ at the Royal International Horse Show, this Friday.
The fundraising campaign is designed to support the BHS’s work of preventing the suffering of thousands of horses and ponies, which it does by providing expert advice across a broad range of equine topics.
The campaign encourages horse lovers to make a small donation of £3 a month, which will help the Society’s Welfare Department cope with the many demands made on its services – whether it is offering up-to-date information on key issues such as West Nile Virus or African Horse Sickness, campaigning to eradicate ragwort or recruiting and training more volunteer officers able to respond to reports of cruelty or neglect.
All BHS advice and welfare work is provided free of charge and the BHS relies on the support of its members and non-members to carry out its often life saving work.
BHS Welfare Senior Executive, Lee Hackett said: “Most horse welfare problems are not a result of intentional neglect or abuse. Often, a lack of knowledge is the cause and this is why our belief in ‘prevention of suffering through education’ is so important.”
The Royal International Horse Show, held at the All England Jumping Course, Hickstead, West Sussex, is the official horse show of The British Horse Society. The Society has a number of activities planned throughout the event, including the British Riding Clubs Team Jumping Championship.
