HRH Princess Haya of Jordan Opens Newmarket Equine Hospital

Newmarket Equine Hospital was honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness, Princess Haya of Jordan on Wednesday 13th May when she made a official visit to the state of the art facility and unveiled a plaque to mark the official opening in front of 300 guests.
On arrival at Newmarket Equine Hospital, HRH Princess Haya of Jordan was presented with a posy of flowers by Miss Alice Wright and Miss Grace Wright, daughters of Senior Surgeon, Ian Wright, before being formally introduced to the senior partners of the hospital.
A former Olympic Show Jumper, President of the FEI (Federation Equestre Internationale) and owner of last year’s Derby winner, New Approach, Princess Haya received a tour of the 15 acre site which opened in September last year and which houses some of the most advanced veterinary diagnostic equipment available in Europe including, MRI, Scintigraphy and the Dynamic Respiratory Endoscope. She also received a behind the scenes tour of the surgery suite which will be officially known as the HRH Princess Haya of Jordan Surgery Suite.

Newmarket Equine Hospital has been purpose built with greatly expanded facilities. The design of the main hospital building is an asymmetric cross with 4 wings – reception and offices, laboratory, diagnostics and theatres. In addition there is a separate intensive care unit and an expanded diagnostic unit for advanced imaging modalities.
The theatres have been up and running smoothly since the move, with over 500 surgeries performed already. The unit includes dedicated orthopaedic and soft tissue suites with the highest spec facilities and networked digital imaging and is fed by four anaesthetic induction and recovery stalls to cope comfortably with the (approximately) 800 surgeries performed annually.
The hospital has expanded its previous diagnostic capabilities and now has 2 high powered xray suites, ultrasonography and in the expanded unit, nuclear scintigraphy (bone scan) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), representing truly state-of-the-art facilities.
For the examination of lameness we have built an examination area with a floodlit 20x40m ménage, hard and soft lunging areas and 2 trot-up runways. To cope with the expanded facilities, there are over 80 stables for in-patients, which have already housed over 50 horses at one time.
The laboratory is equipped to offer a full range of diagnostic services for hospital patients, but also offering a complete service to external patients and referring veterinary practices.
A highly trained team of specialists including consultants in medicine, surgery, orthopaedics and anaesthesia and an excellent team of support staff will ensure that Newmarket Equine Hospital continue to provide the very best equine veterinary care for its patients and clients.
