ILPH Sympathies For Best Mate

Best Mate

The ILPH are very sorry to hear of the death of Best Mate, who tragically collapsed after his run in the William Hill Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter on Tuesday.

It is a sad fact that both horses and humans sometimes suffer heart attacks when taking strenuous exercise, but we are happy that the jockey did just the right thing by pulling up when he realised something was wrong.

We also acknowledge that Henrietta Knight is a trainer who cares passionately about the welfare of her horses, and she would never have allowed Best Mate to race had there had been any indication of a problem.

We sympathise with all those who supported him.
