Horse of the Year Show (HOYS), which takes place from 8th- 12th October at Birmingham’s NEC, will be celebrating its Diamond Jubilee with a truly inimitable line-up of displays and entertainment for this year’s equestrian spectacular and is proud to announce that Prince Harry’s chosen regiment and firm crowd favourite, the Household Cavalry presented by Equimax, will perform a bespoke “HOYS 60thMusical Ride.”
Charging into the frontline at HOYS, the imperial Household Cavalry will form part of what promises to be the greatest Show to date with their latest impressive and breath-taking performance which has been specially choreographed to celebrate the 60th show. The ever popular exhibit will demonstrate exceptional horsemanship and the very best of British traditions dating back to 1660.
Hailed as the oldest regiment in the British Army, the majestic Household Cavalry, consisting of Officers from the Life Guards and The Blues and Royals, will be gracing the NEC Arena on their beautiful black horses resplendent in their tunics, gleaming steel cuirasses and plumed helmets. The stunning display will also feature the State Trumpeters and the magnificent drum horse which can be seen performing ceremonial duties.
The Household Cavalry provides the Queen's Life Guard daily and Sovereign's Escort on State occasions. It is their unique privilege to meet the requirement to carry out mounted and some dismounted ceremonial duties on State and Royal occasions which include the provision of a Sovereign's Escort most commonly seen at the Queen's Birthday Parade in June each year. Other occasions include Sovereign's Escorts for Her Majesty The Queen during State Visits by visiting Heads of State, and as required by Her Majesty anywhere in the United Kingdom.
Virbac Ltd, the company behind wormers Equimax and Eraquell, has been named as the official sponsor of the Household Calvary Musical Ride for HOYS Diamond Jubilee.
Equine Product Manager from Virbac, Elizabeth Barrett, said, "We are delighted to sponsor the Household Calvary Musical Ride. The heavier horses used by the Household Cavalry are all wormed with Equimax and reflect the convenience of the 700kg bodyweight syringe very well. Equimax are proud to be associated with this great show favourite, which is such a part of our tradition and heritage."
In addition, the most famous horse show in the world will also present the popular return of the famous Osborne Refrigerators Musical Drive of the Heavy Horses. The Osborne Refrigerators Musical Drive of the Heavy Horses will continue in the same traditional vein in an exclusive display especially choreographed for 2008. The much-loved Musical Drive, for decades a traditional feature at the Show, has been reformed especially for this year’s Horse of the Year Show and features Shires, Clydesdales, Percherons and one of the UK’s rarest breeds, the Suffolk Punch. This noble display will strike chords of the by-gone era and will be set to stirring traditional music.
Horse of the Year Show hosts the finals of the most highly regarded showing and show jumping championships alongside top international show jumping and celebrates the end of the competitive season in true style. This year’s Diamond Jubilee means dazzling performances, stunning displays and tense competition resulting in an equestrian extravaganza not to be missed.
No matter how old or how horsey, all visitors will be treated to an action-packed spectacular. Class favourites including national and international show jumping, the famous Puissance and the prestigious showing Championships will headline the Show. This year will also see the high speed Scurry Driving and the final of the nail-biting Prince Philip Cup Pony Club Mounted Games.
The show’s layout has also been improved. The spacious Retail Village housing more than 250 retail outlets will now be located directly between the Caldene Arena and the Andrews Bowen International Arena. Visitors will also have the opportunity to come face to face with a variety of different breeds in the Interactive Feature Area and enjoy a host of additional visitor attractions including rider signings.
