MOUNTED GAMES COUNTS DOWN TO HOYS
The countdown has begun to the highlight of The Pony Club’s Mounted Games calendar – the Horse of The Year Show.
The CountryView Mounted Games will take place during every performance of the five day show (12-15 October). The six teams who, through immense skill and determination, have fought off over 250 other teams to qualify for HOYS are; 1. Atherstone Hunt (Green), 2. Banwell (Red), 3. Bramham Moor (Blue), 4. Eglinton Hunt (Yellow), 5. Oakley Hunt West (White), 6. Devon & Somerset (Black). These teams, after months of practice and preparation, will compete for both the CountryView Trophy and the Prince Philip Cup.
The Prince Philip Cup was introduced in 1957 as an enduring challenge trophy when HRH The Duke of Edinburgh KG KT recommended to Colonel Sir Mike Ansell (former Director of HOYS) that games could be designed based on Cavalry competitions, which would be engaging and enhance rider skills. It was decided that The Pony Club was the ideal choice to promote and manage this innovative and exciting competition.
To this day, the Games retain their royal connections as medals continue to be commissioned by Buckingham Palace and struck by the Royal Mint.
