AT LAST …THE ULTIMATE YOUNG PERSON’S GUIDE TO SHOW JUMPING!
TIM STOCKDALE and The Pony Club have joined forces to produce a new show jumping publication for young riders. In A YOUNG PERSON’S GUIDE TO SHOW JUMPING, Tim passes on a wealth of knowledge acquired during a lifetime in the sport - from his own young days with the Grove Hunt Branch to his successful career as a professional international rider.
Emphasising the need for correct basic training of both horse and rider, the book covers everything from how the horse jumps, the jumping seat and suitable tack, to how to ride under competition conditions. Grids and gridwork are covered in detail and Tim also explains how to prepare at home for the increasingly technical problems posed by modern course designers; how to walk a course; how to measure related distances and how to ride a jump-off. Measurements throughout are given for both horses and ponies. There is advice on what to wear on show days, travel preparations and how to care for the competition horse. An amazing amount of information is included in the ‘Top Tips’ chapter, which gives easy, but effective, advice on dozens of different topics.
The book, which is illustrated with specially commissioned photographs and line drawings, provides an invaluable guide for anyone wishing to improve their show jumping performance.
A Yonng Person’s Guide to Show Jumping is available from all good equestrian bookshops priced £14.95 or direct from The Pony Club at £10.95 for members. The book can be purchased via the webiste at www.pcuk.org or by ringing The Pony Club 024 7669 8300.
