Hickstead to publish a ‘golden celebration’ of its first half century

“Hickstead, a Golden Celebration” is to be published in June. Researched and written by ex-Daily Telegraph equestrian correspondent Alan Smith, it is a first-hand account of the late Douglas Bunn’s efforts to establish the Sussex showground. It includes, too, a collection of photographs, most in colour, of many of Hickstead’s great moments.

Douglas ’s intention in establishing the All England Jumping Course was to provide a venue where British riders and horses could compete over the type of obstacles they would meet abroad. The book contains observations from past and present riders on how well he achieved this.
It also contains in its 168 pages accounts of how the Bunn family grew up with one of the world’s finest permanent outdoor equestrian venues literally on their doorstep and how they plan to maintain and develop it as a lasting memorial to their father.
