Horse of the Year Show continued to entertain the crowds today with world-class show jumping, prestigious showing Championships and mesmerising equestrian entertainment. With the cream of Britain’s young riders competing to become the Young Riders Champion of Great Britain this afternoon, it was the on-form Matthew Sampson who proved he is definitely one to watch for the future. The 19 year old, produced his second win of the Show, with a foot perfect double clear riding V.Anubertha in a time of 42.12 seconds. Second place went to Anthony Condon and Adelgonde-z with a time of 43.15 and the only other double clear. Julie Andrews took third place riding Oslo du pre Feuri.

The International show jumping got underway today with the Dick Turpin Stakes, a class designed to test the riders’ skill and ability at speed. Riding against the clock and for points towards Sunday's Grand Prix, the Leading Show Jumper of the Year class, the International riders certainly had their feet to the floor. Crowd favourite Ellen Whitaker and her consistent speed horse Kanselier were just pipped to the post by Belgian rider Dirk Demeersman on Phaline K by less than a second! Dirk rode, in his own words, “a perfect round, everything came right, the strides, the distances and the fences.” It was a truly classy performance with an incredible 12 clear rounds, the race is on for the acclaimed Leading Show Jumper of the Year title on Sunday.

In the hoys.co.uk Cup, speed expert Paul Barker rode his striking grey mare Anderida Anic producing a lightening quick clear round in 49.37 seconds to take first place. Laura Renwick and Beluga flew round the course and were unfortunate to finish 0.20 seconds behind Paul. Ellen Whitaker was just behind them with a time of 50.09 on CS Online.

New Zealand rider Samantha Mcintosh won the closing class of the day, the Zinc Management Trophy, on her top horse Loxley 38. Samantha rode an extremely stylish round to bag the £5,000 first prize. Piet Raijmakers JR from the Netherlands took second place on Van Schijndel’s Lys Platiere and Britain’s No. 2 Nick Skelton was third on Carlo 273.

Thrilling competition continues tomorrow with the highlight during tomorrow’s evening performance, the famous Puissance class. Sunday’s performance will be packed with further action and excitement including the most prestigious showing and show jumping accolades of the week.
