Just released is the brand new autobiography from one of Britain’s most successful three day event riders Mary King.

The book takes you literally from her birth right through the highs and lows of her life until the end of 2008.
From her humble beginnings on borrowed ponies Mary has literally fought every obstacle that came her way to get to the top of her sport. She writes in a candid and unaffected manner even though her life reads like a who’s who as everyone who is anyone in the equestrian world seems to be threaded seamlessly into the story.
Although not intended as an educational book you can’t help but learn from her insights and experiences, this book is a must for aspiring event riders. It clearly demonstrates that behind the apparent glamour of the sport lies a mass of deep disappointment and heartache as we learn to love and loose some of the characterful horses we have watched her ride over the years. You will need a tissue to hand in places because you will cry.
This story is also a genuine tribute to her support team; her mother, her generous owners, her husband David, and many friends and riders who have helped her along the way.
What an amazing achievement to have represented Great Britain in five successive Olympic Games; won Badminton Horse Trials twice, and be the only person to have won five British national titles at Gatcombe. Will Mary get that elusive Olympic gold medal at London 2012? If you have read this book then I am sure you will be rooting for her. She may be 48 but I am sure there are more exciting chapters still be to written.
