Sebastian Garner, owner of Racehorse Ambulance Ltd, has been appointed Horse Ambulance Consultant for the Olympic Games this year. The equestrian competition takes place in Hong Kong and Sebastian will travel to the games straight after Gatcombe Horse Trials in Gloucestershire which take place this weekend.
Sebastian was appointed by Dr Chris Riggs MRCVS Head of Veterinary Services at the Hong Kong Jockey Club and Olympic Games. He is delighted with the appointment “It is a great privilege to be involved in the Games and I am looking forward to the very specific challenges that it will bring. I will be working closely with the veterinary team to ensure that the welfare of the competing horses is top of the agenda”.
Sebastian’s main role will be in training the Ambulance Personnel prior to the games and overseeing the operation during the Cross Country phase which takes place on the 11th August.
Aged 46, Sebastian was educated at Gordunstoun and started out his working life with bloodstock shipping agents Peden Bloodstock Transport who are the appointed horse shipping agents for this year’s Games. During this time he realised there was a need for a specific horse ambulance and set up his company in 1989.
Since that time the company has gone from strength to strength and now provides a Horse Ambulance at 13 UK racecourses as well as at major equestrian events such as Badminton, Bramham, and Blenheim Three Day Events and at major shows such as Royal Windsor Horse Show, The Horse of the Year Show and Olympia, The London International Horse Show where he is also a Committee member.
